Admissions

While admission to Kwantlen's Science or Applied Science programs is possible with an English 12 (grade of C+ or better) and the bare minimum of science and mathematics necessary for a high school diploma, most science and mathematics courses have a specified prerequisite requirement. This could be one or a combination of previous related courses or grades. For example, Calculus I (MATH 1120) requires Principles of Mathematics 12 with at least a B grade. If you lack the Grade 11 or Grade 12 stipulated prerequisite(s), or a sufficient mark in the prerequisite course(s), the appropriate upgrading is available at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. It is strongly suggested, however, that you plan your Grade 9 to 12 course profile so that you can obtain the required subjects and grades while you are still in high school. Doing so will help you avoid unnecessary delays and disappointments later when completing your Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering degree.

A limited number of the total available seats in Science are reserved for selective entry and early registration to the Associate of Science for applicants with English 12 (B or better), Principles of Mathematics 12 (B or better), and another Science 12 (C+ or better). That "Science" must be either Biology 12, Chemistry 12 or Principles of Physics 12.

A limited number of the total available seats in Engineering are reserved for selective admission and early registration to the Applied Science program for applicants with English 12 (B or better), Chemistry 12 (C+ or better), Principles of Mathematics 12 (B or better), and Principles of Physics (C or better), and who are willing to commit to full-time study.

Applicants with a minimum grade 4 on AP or a minimum grade 5 on IB courses will be granted advanced standing for the respective course equivalencies in Mathematics, Science and other areas. Applicants with a calculus course from secondary school who have passed the Calculus Examination Certificate exam offered by UBC, SFU, UVIC or UNBC will receive credit for Calculus I (MATH 1120 or MATH 1130) at Kwantlen Polytechnic University upon showing proof of this certificate. Kwantlen does not offer this test, as it recognizes the outcome from the universities. Students with the required minimum score on the AP or IB Mathematics/Calculus course do not need to write the Calculus Examination Certificate test.

Admission to the Environmental Protection Technology program requires a C or better in either English 12 or Technical and Professional Communication 12; C+ or better in Principles of Mathematics 11 or Applications of Mathematics 12; C or better in Principles of Physics 11 or Applications of Physics 11; and C+ or better in Chemistry 11.
