Job Description
Metal Fabricators construct, assemble and repair structural shapes made of ferrous or non-ferrous materials. Individuals working in this field must be familiar with different types of metals and know how to operate many different types of specialized machines such as shears, rolling forms, presses and folding machines. Apart from being able to set up and use heavy duty machines, individuals must have the ability to interpret drawing, develop a logical sequence of operation and be able to layout and mark material for cutting, burning, sawing, punching, rolling, bending, drilling, shaping and forming. Fitting and assembly of metal components is also considered to be major responsibility in this field.
Employment Opportunities
Metal Fabricators are employed in structural steel, machinery manufacturing plants, mining, petro-chemical, transportation, marine industries or heavy machinery companies. Individuals are involved in repairing or fabricating vessels, tanks, chutes, hoppers, stacks, as well as other heavy or light metal components on a custom made basis.
There are many job opportunities for individuals looking for a career in the metal fabrication industry. Employers are looking for young men and women who are interested in working with metal material, using machinery to shape, weld and assembly metal components together. Graduates of the Metal Fabrication ELTT Citation program will be prepared to work in the industry as an apprentice.Finding Employment
